Inspired by Underground Hip Hop and artists such as Sage Francis,
RZA, Pharoahe Monch, Atmosphere, Royce Da 5'9, 2Pac, and many more,
Morgan "Mabus" McLaren has a poetic and energetic style that bleeds
beauty into his music. At a young age Morgan was greatly influenced and
fascinated by music of all genres, but it wasnt until the age of
fifteen that he began freestyling and experimenting with Hip Hop after
being inspired by watching local artists perform in Nelson B.C. Canada.
Aiming to surround himself with individuals who also shared his passion
for musical endeavors, Morgan quickly grew his new found hobby into a
full fledged addiction to Hip Hop. Within a few short months he too
started to gain recognition entertaining locals with
his precise flow and "blunt" punchlines anywhere and anytime that he
possibly could. Mainly known for his unique freestyle and off the top
wordplay, Morgan's Hip Hop persona "Mabus" was born. Soon after
realizing that he had an unbridled love for
writing, lyrics, as well as performing, he decided to take his art form
to a broader and more professional level. In 2001, Mabus with the help
of his longtime childhood friend Adam
"Invectrum" Carriere began experimenting with samples and beats they
compiled from whatever sources they could possibly encounter; vinyl
records,
loops, soundtracks, and of course the internet. While other kids their
age in high school began
simultaneously chasing women, liqour, and drugs, Mabus and Invectrum
condemned themselves to countless hours of work with nothing but a
computer, a microphone, and drive
for creative greatness. Within one year Mabus had twenty five tracks
written and recorded, learning producing and mastering techniques from
scratch as he progressed. Using nothing but "cool edit pro" Mabus
created multiple demos and mixtapes over the next few years, and with
the help of Invectrum was always trying to excel and progress to spread
his music and gain recognition. However, in 2005 Morgan was confronted
and challenged by
mountainous personal issues stemming from the death of a close relative
and the collapse of an unhealthy romantic relationship, catapulting him
into a downward spiral of drinking and self destruction. Buried in anger
he picked up the pen once again and began writing to cope with the
overwhelming emotional issues that confronted him.. Adamant about
signing to labels, Mabus continues to write, produce, and release his
own music with the help of Invectrum in hopes of one day breaking out
into a world that is saturated with irrelevant and mundane artists.
Using his music to
drag himself from the depths of disaster, Morgan "Mabus" McLaren came
back with an incredible hunger for success, continuing to push the
limits and break boundaries with his raw passion and undeniable talent.
