His name is Cals and at 25 years old, he already has some experience in the music industry. He started rapping in his early teens, but it was not until age 21 that he recovered from a broken neck he suffered at 17 that he took his gift seriously and stuck with music. "A few years ago, everything I was doing was real life, real pain, real struggle. Now, I'm doing more feel good music that people can vibe to, from Hip-Hop, Pop to R&B. You can't put me in a box."
Being a relentless networker, Cals has already collaborated with some of Hip-Hop and R&B's heavy hitters and released his debut album "Still Standing" earlier this year, spawning collaborations with N.O.R.E. and Styles P.
For 2012, Cals is getting ready to turn it all the way up. His new single "Something About Your Body" is buzzing on the blogs and the clubs alike, as radio stations across the country have been picking it up. The song was produced by Paco Swartz and features Def Jam signee YG, crooner Bobby Brackins as well as Cals' protege Ethan Avery.
Cals describes the single as follows: "My artist Ethan Avery showed me the record and I loved it right away. It was a feel good West Coast record and I felt like nobody has a song like this out right now. It's new with an old school West Coast feel."
With "Something About Your Body" picking up steam, Cals already has the next single in the chamber ready for blast off. This one, called "Digits", also features YG and Bobby Brackins, along with West L.A.'s rising star Mann ("Buzzin'", "The Mack"). The singles are off Cals' upcoming solo album "Paper Trail Gang", which is currently slated for an early 2012 release. Besides YG, Mann and Bobby Brackins, other features on the album will include N.O.R.E. and Grafh.
